HOLIDAY... PARTY?

Postby jud » Thu Nov 18, 2010 5:40 pm

This was brought up at the run last night.....

'Tis the season for a party! Any excuse to party is good, but this one especially! Any ideas of what we could do or where to go? If we can't find a party venue that's affordable, would y'all be happy with a simple dinner out at, say, Chinatown or Little Italy or Woodside?

On the one hand, Adobo is a year and a half old and it seems a shame to lose a year end holiday tradition. On the other hand, this time of year is full of pressures and obligations and I fear that many of the "pillars" of our community are exhausted from planning and supporting other events; not to mention other demands in their personal lives. And of cousre there are the various work parties that we are expected to go to. Therefore if we do something, perhaps there is a way to make it a low stress event - like a party in a pool room at the Gallway Hooker (ok, that was Jud's idea - but I think it is a good one). Another idea might be a party closer to New Years rather than Christmas. At any rate, if you have any interest in planning or making this happen, speak up. And for everyone else, just because one person speaks up or makes a suggestion does not mean they have volunteered to single-handedly plan and execute an event. So what say you all? Is it worth getting involved (especially if you haven't recently been involved)?

Okay folks...... no one's going to want to plan a party if no one's going. So let's see a show of hands, please. Here are the choices:

  • Dec. 10 (Friday) dinner
  • Dec. 10 (Friday) party
  • Dec. 11 (Saturday) dinner
  • Dec. 17 (Friday) dinner
  • Dec. 17 (Friday) party
  • Dec. 18 (Saturday) dinner
  • January party
  • January dinner
PLEASE REPLY. Time is running short!

I am in for pretty much any of the above. I might prefer a January party, but I think I could do any of the other times. Looks like it is just going to be me and Jud though, so I think the two of us will just go to Atlantic City and blow the remaining club funds on the dice.

I am unlikely to be able to attend whatever the date but Dec 10/11 would be the worst days for me.

If it was on the really early side on a Saturday, Wendy and Santi would make it. Like before 6ish. :sigh:

Otherwise, have the party whenever is best for you folks. One of these days you should have a run that ends in Astoria where Wendy, Santi, and I can meet you at a Pilipino joint for lunch.

HOLIDAY... DINNER!

Postby jud » Tue Nov 30, 2010 9:57 pm

Okay, so a bunch of us will be having a quiet, non-party-but-lots-of-gossip-about-you dinner on Friday, December 17th. We will have some sort of Asian food, either Chinese or Filipino or Indian. All are welcome!

Slight change of date... We will have our non-party-but-lots-of-gossip-about-you dinner on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18th to make way for a certain bella's super mega special 21th (sic) birthday party that Friday. We will go out for DIMSUM, because if you run sum, you dim sum. As always, all are welcome!

That's SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18th.
The fare is DIMSUM.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18th.

Darn.... someone who is a frequent visitor to Chinatown and owns a cat and makes pork adobo but doesn't share said that he hasn't seen a single place in C'town serve dim sum after lunch, and that it's a breakfast/early lunch sort of thing.

We'll have to rethink our plan, then. But the date and time still stand!

We could do a dim sum lunch instead? Or dinner, but have it lunch time? :b4:

Do you think someone who is a frequent visitor to Chinatown and owns a cat and makes pork adobo but doesn't share would host a holiday gathering in his apartment?

Does he/she have a giant TV screen and a bunch of game consoles?

Hey All... not sure how open anyone is to Queens Dim Sum but there's a place called "Sunway" in Flushing that serves until 3am. Address is 3907 Prince Street which is a block or two away from the 7 train.

We could also just go to Sunny on the Upper East Side and get a bunch of nice dishes to share!

Here's another option... East Ocean Palace on Queens Blvd in Forest Hills - my family and I go to this place often. Just spoke with someone from there and they serve dim sum all day. It's not too far from the F/E train.

As for Sunway in Flushing, they were pretty good when I used to go about 2 years ago. Sorry if the reviews said otherwise.

I'm renting a van if I can get 6 people to help me pay for it (about $10 pp).
