A great legend in distance running and life has passed on. She was a huge influence in my life as a runner when I was first introduced to the sport around 1979. I had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and was always stuck by her graciousness and humility, which belied the incredible talent and wealth of accomplishments that she had.

"I view running as a necessary tool to help get me through life, so I do everything I can to nurture it, take care of it, and appreciate it. I want to hold on to my friend for as long as I live."

C'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron.
